Protest around Westminster
Nick Griffin, leader of the British National Party (BNP) speaking on College Green outside the Palace of Westminster in an area cordoned off by Police keeping supporters of United Against Fascism (UAF) and the BNP group apart. The BNP had been banned from marching in Woolwich and moved their rally to Westminster hoping to lay flowers at the Cenotaph in Whitehall but were prevented from doing so.
A spokesman said: “Due to police concerns about serious disruption to the life of the community, and the potential for serious disorder should this counter protest confront the BNP organised protest, police have imposed conditions under Section 14 of the Public Order Act.
